Whether you love the history of an old house, prefer to be the home’s original owner, or are interested in upscale town homes, condos and apartments, Lynchburg has a dwelling you can call home.

New neighborhoods can be found throughout the area that cater to young families and older adults.

As local colleges continue to grow and graduating students settle in the area, new neighborhoods are cropping up throughout Central Virginia. Planned communities cater to young families and senior citizens, with many offering amenities like swimming pools, lighted cul-de-sacs, main level living and maintenance-free options. Some areas are seeing great strides in renovation, such as downtown Lynchburg, with its upgraded City Lofts apartments beside Main Street’s Community Market. From new construction homes situated on acres of land in county subdivisions to large historical homes with prominent features in downtown Lynchburg, Central Virginia offers a variety of housing options.

Wyndhurst

Designed as a classic American small town, with its own neighborhoods, its own parks and its own town center, almost everything is within walking distance in Wyndhurst. This community mixes the best of residential and business, offering single family homes, townhouses, and apartments all within blocks of small retail stores, gas stations, restaurants, and the Jamerson YMCA.

Thomas Jefferson Crossing

Still in its early stages of development, Thomas Jefferson Crossing in Bedford County, will feature high-end retail, restaurants and a number of businesses located on more than 100 acres of land. There will be 40 commercial lots along Forest Road with the balance of the property being used for residential purposes. This new planned development is one of the first of its kind allowing for mixed use, incorporating residential, commercial and multi-family growth while permitting the preservation of open space. Located within the area will be walking trails, ponds, streams and open spaces.

Cornerstone

Also referred to as a “traditional neighborhood development,” Cornerstone will offer 650-1,000 homes and 100,000 square feet of retail, parks and open space on 113 acres. This new development, still under construction, off of Timberlake Road, sits across from more established single-family homes and townhouses. It is close in proximity to Hwy 460, restaurants, schools and shopping.

Downtown Lynchburg

In the midst of revitalization, downtown Lynchburg offers a mix of renovated apartments and historical homes. The City Market Lofts offer 59 New York-style lofts to satisfy a growing thirst for downtown living, on-street commercial space and a year-round dormitory for the Central Virginia Justice. Large homes dating back to the late 1800s adorn historic districts in and around downtown.

Within walking distance of many of these homes and apartments are restaurants, the Community Market, downtown riverfront, nature trails, and City Hall.
