Grant Boosts Potential for Local Airport

The city has been awarded a $700,000 federal grant. The grant would help the city find a new carrier to replace Delta, which discontinued its service from Lynchburg last January. The new grant could be used to subsidize AirTran if it agrees to pick up where Delta left off.

Christine Kennedy, Exe. V.P. of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber and Mark Courtney, Manager of the Lynchburg Regional Airport believe that Lynchburg has a strong case to make with AirTran because it has healthy passenger numbers, a good mix of business and pleasure travelers and the ability to draw from a large region if competitive fares are offered.
